The Multi-Practice Firm's Profile Problem

Different practices, different clients, different formats — and one consultant base trying to serve all of it consistently.

Firms with multiple practice areas face a specific version of the profile management problem: the same consultant might need to appear differently depending on which practice, which client, and which type of engagement a bid is for — while the firm as a whole still needs some baseline consistency in how it presents itself.

Why one format doesn't fit every practice

An engineering practice bidding into public sector work often has entirely different format requirements than a digital transformation practice bidding into private enterprise clients. Forcing both into an identical template either strips out information one audience needs or clutters the profile with information the other audience doesn't care about.

The consistency firms actually need

The answer isn't uniform formatting — it's a consistent underlying data source with flexible output. The same consultant's true project history and experience should be the single source of truth, while the presentation layer adapts to whatever format a specific practice or client actually requires.

The problem was never that practices need different formats. The problem is when different formats require separately maintained, drifting versions of the same person's experience.

What breaks without this

Without a shared source of truth, multi-practice firms end up with duplicate, slowly diverging versions of the same consultant's profile — one per practice, each maintained separately, each gradually drifting out of sync with the others. A consultant working across two practices might have two different job titles listed, two different summaries of the same project, neither fully accurate.

Building for this properly

The structural fix is separating the data layer from the output layer entirely: one accurate, current record per consultant, with practice-specific and client-specific templates applied at export time rather than maintained as separate living documents. This lets every practice present exactly what its clients need to see, without ever risking two conflicting versions of the truth existing at once.
