Institutions are under real pressure to demonstrate graduate employment outcomes. Most current tools weren't built to help them do it.
University career centres face an increasingly common institutional demand: demonstrate what actually happens to graduates after they leave. Employment rates, salary outcomes, time-to-placement — these numbers matter for accreditation, for prospective student recruitment, and for justifying career services budgets internally. The problem is that most career centre tools weren't built to answer this question at all.
Most platforms career centres currently use are built around the enrollment period — job postings, employer connections, event management, resume review during the student's time at the institution. The moment a student graduates, platform access typically ends along with their enrollment. Any visibility the institution had into that student's career trajectory ends at exactly the moment the most important outcome data would start to exist.
Career centres often try to solve this with surveys: reaching out to alumni months or years later, asking them to self-report their employment status. Response rates on this kind of outreach are predictably low, and the data that does come back is inconsistent and hard to verify. This isn't because career services staff aren't trying — it's because the underlying platform architecture gives them no ongoing connection to the student once they've left.
You can't track an outcome you have no ongoing relationship to observe.
A fundamentally different model becomes available when students retain their career platform account after graduation, rather than losing access the moment they're no longer enrolled. Placement outcomes, career progression, and employment trajectory become observable over time as a natural byproduct of the student continuing to use the same platform for their ongoing career — not through an awkward, low-response survey process bolted on years later.
This matters for more than administrative reporting. Real, longitudinal outcome data strengthens accreditation submissions, gives admissions and marketing teams credible numbers to work with, and gives the career services office genuine evidence of its own impact rather than anecdotal success stories. For an institution serving thousands of students, the difference between "we believe our career services help" and "here is what we can actually demonstrate" is a meaningfully different institutional position — and one that's increasingly expected rather than optional.
